Comment | Slight rewording.
Also, in a similar vein to 普通/普通列車, could we add an abbr-tag and a reference to 各駅停車? According to Wikipedia there actually is a difference between 普通列車 and 各駅停車. That is, there can be (apparently extremely rare) cases where a 普通 physically can't stop at a station along a line because it lacks a platform for that particular track, so it isn't actually a 各停. Fascinating, but I have no idea how to briefly reword that so 普通列車 and 各駅停車 can be distinguished, and I doubt anyone would ever need such information. |

Comment | Yes. I'm close to 100ertain that they're wrong.
They aren't even self-consistent. Like the page assumes that "愛さない" uses さ as its -nai stem, but "愛せず" uses せ as its -nai stem for some reason. The former is properly attributed to 愛す (v5s), and the latter to 愛する (vs-s) or 愛す (vs-s). The ず form of 愛す is 愛さず, which isn't accounted for on the conjugation page at all. (Even though 愛さず is more common than 愛せず based on web hits.) Compare (the ones with asterisks aren't accounted for on your conjugation page): 愛せず (from 愛する/愛す vs-s) = 23,500 googits 愛さず (from 愛す v5s) = 141,000 googits***** 愛しよう (from 愛する/愛す vs-s) = 7,520 googits 愛そう (from 愛す v5s) = 141,000 googits (although some are probably false positives)***** 愛できる (from 愛する/愛す vs-s) = 2,120 googits 愛せる (from 愛す v5s) = 458,000 googits***** 愛すれば (from 愛する/愛す vs-s) = 82,900 googits 愛せば (from 愛す v5s) = 66,100 googits***** 愛せ brings up too many false positives to make a comparison with 愛しろ/愛せよ. Now, Wikipedia and kokugo dictionaries DO list さ as one possible 未然形 ending for する in modern Japanese: し(せ・さ)・し・する・する・すれ・しろ(せよ) So it seems *possible* that you could attribute さない and さず to する. However, the さ here seems to be limited to use when creating the passive さ-れる and the causative さ-せる. The ない is always supposed used as し-ない. Here's the smoking gun, from Meikyo's entry for ない: 【語法】(1)動詞、動詞型活用の助動詞の未然形に付く。サ変動詞は「し」に付いて「しない」となる。*****なお、「愛しない」は「愛する(サ変)」に、「愛さない」は「愛す(五段)」に付いたもの。***** |

Comment | One more thing.
I assume that the reason that する is labeled as (vs-s) is because it was being considered as having that extra "special" conjugation さない in the case of things like 愛する and 介する, but not in the case of regular (vs) verbs like 勉強する and 表現する. I think it would actually make a lot more sense, and be more consistent to flip things around. If the カ変 verb 来る is tagged (vk), not (vk-s), then the サ変 verb する should be (vs), not (vs-s). The (vs-s) tag would actually be better on things like 勉強 and 表現, since the additional "s" could imply that you have to "suffix" the "suru" yourself. Of course the easier path to consistency would just be to change (vk) -> (vk-s), but that seems a little less sensible. |

Comment | Looking at this and the other わく entry the 'wrong' kanji appears to be used between 5 and 30 percent of the time.
For comparison a classic 変換ミス (自信 / 自身) occurs about 3f the time (私は自信がない 333 'real' Google hits vs 私は自身がない 10) This implies that either a) quite a few people don't know which of 湧く and 沸く is correct for any usage or b) the distinction is not as clear as implied by the dictionaries. 沸く 【わく】 (v5k,vi) (1) (esp. 沸く) to grow hot (of water, etc.); to boil; お湯が沸く 69,900 (? 'real') お湯が沸いた 633 'real' お湯が湧く 6,720 (318 'real' Google hits) お湯が湧いた 36 'real' お湯がわく 2,830 (268 'real' Google hits) お湯がわいた 68 'real' お湯が涌く 163 (16 'real' Google hits) お湯が涌いた 6 'real'. 5 to 10eems a little high for a 変換ミス rate, although within the realms of possibility. (2) to be in a state of excitement; to get excited; to take place energetically; (P) > (5)興奮する。盛んに行われる。 >「会場が―・いた」 会場が沸く 911 'real' Google hits 会場が湧く 83 'real' 会場がわく 60 'real' 会場が涌く 2 'real' Again quite high for 変換ミス. 湧く(P);涌く [わく] /(v5k,vi) (1) to well (up)/to gush forth (of water)/to spring out/to surge 泉が湧く 424 'real' 泉がわく 101 泉が沸く 72 泉が涌く 41 (2) to appear (esp. suddenly) (sweat, tears, etc.)/ 涙が湧く 18 'real' 涙がわく 5 涙が沸く 2 涙が涌く 2 (3) to hatch (esp. of parasitic insects, etc.) ウジがわく 287 'real' ウジが湧く 182 ウジが沸く 53 ウジが涌く 27 (4) to be generated (of emotions) 喜びが湧く 75 'real' 喜びがわく 71 喜びが沸く 36 喜びが涌く 6 |
