Comment | I am not quite sure how to do the above entry, but I thought that it would help to show カフカス人 [Caucasian], which was the topic of my search. The reading text was this: 主人公のきよ葉を演じたのはカフカス人と日本人のハーフでモデル、
Perhaps it should be a separate entry because most of the other nationalities, etc., have their own headword. |

Comment | I frequently come across the above and, in context, I have taken it to mean 'theme'. However, I cannot find any help in the references to which I have referred. There are quite a few Google hits. Perhaps an entry will get the attention of your experts and be confirmed or shot down. |

Comment | I am wondering whether the above is simply the error of using 水 instead of 瑞, i.e., a typo.
I have seen it used several times, but the reading and meaning does show up anywhere in the dictionaries which I have . Whereas, 瑞々しい(P); 瑞瑞しい 【みずみずしい】 (adj-i) young and vivacious; fresh; juicy; (P) is clearly present. The text which I was reading was this: テマとした水水しいそして豪華な本作品は.... As far as I could translate, its meaning, from context, was something like this: a vivacious and extravagant main work of art was made the theme. I am not sure what water has to do with that, but.... If I am correct, then, in this case, UNKNOWN is truly correct. |

Comment | With reference to your comments on 'UNKNOWN', I can understand your feelings about cluttering up the display with my long-winded description.
In trying to suggest a replacement for the 'UNKNOWN/RH' entries, I felt that it was easier for me to indicate an intention or purpose, rather than trying to find the few words that would reflect the right tone for your system, which system I can hardly even pretend to fully understand at this early stage of my accessing the data. I was somewhat motivated to enter the debate again after I had read the comments of 'Name' on 4th September 08. That contributor had stated: 'The number of entries listed as "UNKNOWN" seems to be increasing constantly. Often there will be more UNKNOWN listings than actual definitions. As a regular user (and contributor to) this dictionary, I find this quite annoying. It would be very helpful if there was an option to suppress these listings in the search results.' Having read your comments, I should be most grateful to have the benefit of your earlier offer to change "UNKNOWN" to "NO TRANSLATION YET" [See 19th August 08 against entry 旧日本海軍 [きゅうにほんかいぐん] /(exp) The old Japanese navy/RH/TempSUB/] |
