CommentThanks for your GREAT software. I think it is important for dictionaries to include the words used for the people's cultural events and common dialect words. I arrived in Osaka and was so confused as all shopkeepers said "Ookini" and I could not find the meaning in any of my dictionaries! Nice to see you have it :-)

i agree. i think the "fair"/"clean" meaning should be added to 明るい, and this should be deleted.

Headword 1卜調

Part-of-speechn
English 1key of G (in music)
ReferenceSee below.
CommentI am not sure about the reading for the combination because I cannot find it in any reference source, but I feel quite sure about the meaning. Original text was in a programme for a concert and it reads: バッハ: 卜調 ソナタ三重蚤奏 [Bach: Trio Sanata in G]. It seems that 卜 equals 'G'.

Editorial Comment Wrong end of the stick here. The notes of the scale in Japanese are イ, ロ, ハ, ニ, ホ, ヘ, ト for A, B, C, D, E, F, G. It's "ト"; not 卜. Look up ト長調 and ト短調.

ReferenceSee "Comments" :-)
CommentIt seems that the existing entry is taken from (or correlated with) EIJIRO only. But 国語辞書 also lists 恥ずかしがる as one of the meanings, in addition to おじけづく and 気持ちが萎縮する, and terms like びびりました show up in many blogs on the web where the context suggest the meaning is usually much less dramatic than "crap my pants". My wife also suggests that it means "驚く" in the sense of being briefly surprised (like びっくり) and that the expression is also often used as 言葉弄び (well, many terms fit that last description, so i don't think that needs to be in the dictionary, but it supports the idea that the term is often used with less severe connotations than the ones the existing gloss suggests). Comment(s) welcome... :-)
