| Comment | I was searching for the above as a suffix to 立ちはだかる [with a 'to plant oneself firmly in front' or 'to block the way' type of meaning for the complete expression] so, as a matter of interest, I looked to see if I could find the suffix as a separate entry. At first, I only found the above in 現代 改訂新版, but there was no reference to any kanji. When I looked it up on your site, I got the above complete with a kanji. However, I am not sure about the kanji element because I have not been able to locate it elsewhere in my reference books. Nevertheless, はだかる does seems to match in quite well with 立ちはだかる [which, of course, is already on your site].
P.S. I have just referred to your 'where am I up to now [I think that is right]' box in order to see, as a matter of interest, what was located there. When I read the message about your daughter, I was naturally motivated to say that I hope she is making good progress. Having accessed your site over some few months now and having wondered often about the dedication necessary to maintain your site, such sad news inevitably places a human dimension behind the text on the screen. I am finding myself wanting to hear an up-date. |

| Comment | In looking for confirmation that this combination of 3 kanji has the reading above, I could not find anything other than the various readings for 彼 and also for 個人.
Again, getting to the meaning seems fairly straightforward, however with no natural spaces between individual words, deciding upon the reading is more problematic; especially with all the simple everyday expressions being taken for 'read' in most of my reference books. In the absence of definitive help, I was left to wonder if it could possibly be a combination with the reading of 'ひこじん'. Scott provided one solution, but again it would be good to enter these three kanji and find the meaning on your own site. |
