CommentIt might be nice to show the literal translation too, maybe in parentheses, like: (lit. as if one had taken a demons neck).

I also found some entries in SPACEALC that suggest a few alternative meanings (see References).

Other language optioneng Added a "(lit: ...).

Current Entry割礼 [かつれい] /(n,vs) circumcision/ (1208150)
Headword 1割礼
Reading 1かつれい
Part-of-speechn,vs
English 1male circumcision
English 2male genital cutting
English 3male genital mutilation
CommentIt is a bias for female circumcision 「女性割礼」to also have the definitions "female cutting/female genital mutilation" but not have the same defenition for male circumcision. (It is a bias that 割礼 can only mean male circumcision in and of itself, but that is a completely different matter.) "genital cutting" should either be applied to the circumcision of both sexes, or none at all. Thank you.

Editorial Comment I disagree. There is a world of difference between cutting off a foreskin, i.e. circumcision, and female genital cutting, which involves removal of the clitoris, labia minora, etc. I don't like the term "female circumcision". While I am not a fan of male circumcision, I think it is stretching it to call it mutilation.
