New Entries/Amendments for 2008-11-23

These are the submissions received via the WWW forms for this day. I (Jim Breen) will annotate the submission if I think it needs to be amended or rejected or if I have a question about it. Otherwise it can be assumed that it has been accepted. You can see how it will look in EDICT by looking at the "diffs" file for this day or the next in the diffs directory.
Annotations completed: 23 Nov.

CommentWith reference to Rene's comment: 'Perhaps the script that removes stuff from revhenkan only looks at the first headword? ' and your comment 'I think I was using the wrong EDICT version to filter against. I think it's cleaner now. ', I am happy to think that the input of a novice can often, without intent, trigger a by-product benefit. I believe that it demonstrates the value of providing a route for the submissions of the novice; which submissions would, of course, have to be dumped into a holding box and be available for study by the experts as and when time permits.

I have made an amendment to the above entry because I think that the '自ずから' and '自ら' need clarification to positively demonstrate that the reading is the same even though the headword 1 and 2 may imply that there could be a difference.

I hope that the manner of my amendment achieves the following result: '自ずから [おのずから] (P); 自ら [おのずから] '

There are many entries with okurigana variants in the kanji part, but just the one reading. 自ずから/自ら is just a slightly extreme example. Duplicating おのずから would have no effect, apart from throwing up "duplicate reading" errors.

I agree with the slang tag, so on to the validity. It is in the same category as やる being used to mean 'to fuck', although not as common in usage. Most commonly written in kana, expecially as マワす (240 real Google hits for マワす, which pretty much all seem to be from the 'nasty' sense).

I guess it's like the Japanese equivalent of "to swarm" or something, and probably a take-off of sense 3. I would have been happier not knowing, I think.

Comment> I guess it's like the Japanese equivalent of "to swarm" or something, and probably a take-off of sense 3.

I would have guessed it was based from sense 2, but I doubt there's any way to check.

Sense 7 is also written 輪姦す, with 471 'real' hits (so I guess it isn't (uk) after all).

Incidentally 犯す (which could possibly be split into two senses) may be written as 姦す for the indicated usage.

Editorial Comment Thanks Paul & Rene. I now have it as "often as マワす or 輪姦す". I wonder even if it should go into its own entry (輪姦す [まわす;マワす] ..." with and xref to 回す/廻す.
I've split 犯す into 3 senses, and added "also written 姦す" to the "rape" one.
