Headword 1 | 生き生きとする |
Reading 1 | いきいきとする |
Part-of-speech | vi |
English 1 | to scintillate |
English 2 | (vi,vt) freshen |
English 3 | come alive |
English 4 | WI1 |
Comment | Looking at this entry for inspiration today, I found that there are four different entries for 生き生きとして、〜とした、〜して、and 〜とする, all seemingly meaning the same thing but all with slightly different entries (e.g. "colourful" appears in one entry but not in the others). My suggestion, which I'm deliberately borrowing this amendment form for one of the entries to make, is that these could all be merged together as variants of the same thing. Unless they are all actually subtlely different from one another?

Editorial Comment | Yes, consolidating the messy "WI" collection into 生き生きとする is a good idea. |

Headword 1 | イントラ |

English 1 | (abbr) Intranet |
Reference | Seen in business correspondence. |
Comment | Came across this usage in daily business. "イントラ" as "Instructor", was definitely not the meaning. Asked a native speaker and figured out that this was an abbreviated reference to "イントラネト".

Headword 2 | ひくり |
Part-of-speech | adv-to,adv |
English 1 | (See ぴくっと) (on-mim) twitching (e.g. an eyebrow) |
Comment | koj also has this as ひくり
i'm a fan of removing the old sense or merging them into one. they're basically the same my onomatopoeia knowledge is pretty wretched, but i think the way kokugo dictionaries work is generally to exclude the と from the actual listing if it's not a っと word. kojien, daijirin, daijisen, and shinmeikai all have this as ぴくり, not ぴくりと |

English 1 | (on-mim) twitching (e.g. an eyebrow) |
Reference | daijirin |
Comment | reading change to your & daijirin's recommendation, & might as well synch the gloss with ぴくりと.
also (vs). was there ever a consensus reached on whether ぴくっと should be marked as (adv-to) since it already includes the と? last i recall, paul was in favour of marking it (adv-to), i was against in favour of marking it (adv), and i think you were leaning towards paul's pov. |

Editorial Comment | I like having just "adv" when the と is built-in. In fact for the glossing file I create a -と version when the PoS is "adv-to". |
Headword 1 | 帯広市 |
Reading 1 | おびひろし |
Part-of-speech | n |
English 1 | the city of Obihiro |
Comment | The current entry says "Obihiro city" which is incorrect English. In the same way that マディソン市 is "the city of Madison" in English, 帯広市 is either "the city of Obihiro" or just "Obihiro" |

Editorial Comment | There are/were 685 such "XXX city" entries. Originally they were "Obihiroshi", etc., then some time ago I ran a scripted change to make them "XXX city". I agree that some Japanese cities like their English title to be "The City of Naninani", however some prefer "Nanika City". Staying with simple solutions, they all now say "XXX (city)", which does not imply it is a title. |
