Several of the JEs I have include "specious" in the glosses.
GG5: plausible 《excuse》; specious 《argument》; glittering 《propaganda》; fair-seeming; fair-spoken. 中辞典: plausible; 《文》 specious Eijiro: もっともらしい仮説 : specious assumption; もっともらしい計画 : specious plan; もっともらしい考え : specious notion HOWEVER, the definitions in 広辞宛 and 大辞林 don't support "specious". And the definitions in the big Kodansha and the ルミナス和英辞典 don't include it either. I think the Kenkyushas got it wrong. |
