Comment | With reference to "No more than the sum of its parts (平ら & 道). Delete perhaps?"; and also your Editorial Comment of "Yes, removed."
I can completely understand the logic, but I wonder about the total context of your site and also about all the entries in the database; and then I wonder about what harm it would do to the site if "平らな道" remained included. One one hand, perhaps its inclusion may be the trigger for greater understand when a novice makes the search. On the other hand, it would, of course, never cause any any harm or anxiety to the expert because an expert who searches your site would never know that it was on the site; except by chance. Then I wonder why it was included in the first place; someone must have thought that it was worth a mention. Surely, if one really used the logic of "this is only the sum of the parts" and then, if one reviewed the data base completely, much of the extremely valuable material for the novice could be removed. I understand, but I would make a plea for all those who start off on the road of learning Japanese for your site to include as much as possible of the things which are "only the sum of the parts". I trust that you will excuse my impertinence for making the above comment; I do so only as one of those searchers who has found your site to be very useful because it included much of the "obvious" which could not be found easily elsewhere. |

Editorial Comment | Things like 平らな道 don't do any harm, but then they really clutter things up. I prefer to keep composed phrases like that only if their meaning is NOT obvious from the sum of the parts. 平らな道 also is a potential problem with the "Translate Words" function, as it will tend to picked for 平らな.... occurrences. |

Headword 1 |
Part-of-speech | v5r |
English 1 | to ignore, to cast aside |
Comment | Am honestly not entirely sure about the definition, but that's what it seems from context. None of the J-J dictionaries I've searched list it either. |
