Comment | I was looking at Scott's submission and noted your comment that: 'I wonder if this is really needed.'
Taking the liberty of staying with a theme of 'The Utterly Obvious', I looked at the following entries:- 円滑に 【えんかつに】 (adv) smoothly; harmoniously; without a hitch 円滑にいく 【えんかつにいく】 go like clockwork; go off like clockwork; WI1 円滑にする 【えんかつにする】 (vt) to lubricate; iron out; make ~ smooth; lubricate ~ during mastication; 円滑にする 【えんかつにする】 (exp) to smooth; to harmonize; to facilitate (NB: User-submitted entry, awaiting verification) 円滑に運ぶ 【えんかつにはこぶ】 go on (oiled) wheels; run on (oiled) wheels; WI1 円滑に運営する 【えんかつにうんえいする】 (vt) to oil; WI1 円滑に運用する 【えんかつにうんようする】 (vt) to oil; WI1 円滑に機能する 【えんかつにきのうする】 function smoothly for; function successfully; WI1 円滑に実施する 【えんかつにじっしする】 implement smoothly; WI1 常に円滑に進む 【つねにえんかつにすすむ】 proceed with uniform smoothness; WI1 円滑に進める 【えんかつにすすめる】 promote the facilitation of; WI1 円滑に追跡する 【えんかつについせきする】 (adj) smooth-pursuit; WI1 円滑に動く 【えんかつにうごく】 (adj) smooth; WI1 One could say that many of the above would be 'Utterly Obvious', but it is really good to find an answer to a search, even if only by way of confirmation. As for me all of the above are valuable and worth keeping. By way of another point, I was searching your site for "端の月", but I could not find anything. I wondered if it meant the moon belonging to the 'tip' [for me, that would seem like the beginning] or the 'end'. I got a clue from the following entries on your site:- 端ノ島 【はしのしま】 Hashinoshima (u); NA 端の補正 【?】 end correction; WI2 So, perhaps it means the end of the month. Still, without any definitive assistance, I wonder. I would like to endorse a plea for keeping Scott's submission. |

Editorial Comment | Scott was amending an old entry (円滑に). I'm happy with the amendment - I was just questioning whether 円滑に was needed given that 円滑/adj-na is an entry. I can see the usefulness of all those "WI" entries (some of which are badly translated, hence the WI status), but a balance need to be found. Re 端の月, I see it's very rare and many of the page hits are really in other contexts, e.g. 北の端の月のピラミッドに... where I think it is referring to the edge of the "月のピラミッド". |
