Comment | Again many thanks for your comments. The earlier version of http://www.csse.monash.edu.au/~jwb/wwwnewwordexpl.html which I had read did not appear to include the details about na-adjectives [[please excuse me if I failed to read it in full], but now I have looked at the current version I think that I have got a better understanding. However, I was wondering how the novice, when searching, would know by reading the headword and the code for part-of-speach that 'na' could be added to the headword to reach the meaning that the headword plus 'na' qualifies a noun. I suppose that there is bound to be the problem, as with any dictionary, that the novice should study the entire introduction before going direct to the headword, at least, if the full value of the dictionary is to be exploited. Thus, the great 'chicken and egg' sitiation of any learning; especially when the novice [especially the child] cannot adequately read the introduction without understanding many of the words
which are used in the introduction. |

Headword 1 | 怒鳴り散らす |
Reading 1 | どなりちらす |
Part-of-speech | vi |
English 1 | to yell |
English 2 | to rant |
English 3 | to rave |
Reference | 小学館 |
Comment | I could not submit this in the normal way. I wanted to promote the 'WI1' based upon a headword in 小学館 and also to draw attention to the same entry in RH. The two entries were as follows:-
怒鳴り散らす 【どなりちらす】 (adj) blustering; (adj) blusterous; (vi) to bluster; rant; make the sparks fly; rant and rave; WI1 怒鳴り散らす 【どなりちらす】 (?) ???; RH However, when I clicked on the first, I got: "上怒和" and when I clicked on the second, I got: "奥鬼怒林道" When I clicked on kanji search, I got the matching kanji for the different readings, namely, respectively:- 上 3E65 [3069:8fe3]; 怒 455C [3760:937b]; 和 4F42 [4734:9861] 奥 317C [1792:899c]; 鬼 3534 [2120:8b53]; 怒 455C [3760:937b]; 林 4E53 [4651:97d1]; 道 463B [3827:93b9] You did say once before that this can happen. Subsequently it corrected itself. However, I thought that I should report the fact. |

Part-of-speech | n,suf |
English 1 | idiot; fool |
English 2 | senility |

Comment | I think that this RH entry should be deleted, but because of the reading, "ほうけ", it is not likely to be picked up in any sweeping exercise. If the entry is kept, it could be crossed-referenced to "惚け(P); 呆け(P) (ぼけ(P); ボケ)".
My starting point for the search was "平和呆け" and I eventually came across the following:- 平和ボケ 【へいわボケ】 (?) ???; RH 平和ボケの 【へいわボケの】 (adj) peace-addicted; WI1 Although "へいわボケ" picked up over 400,000 references on Google, I could not find it in any of my references. Further, I could not find an "ON" reading for "ボケ" and the only reading was "ぼけ" which matched what I was looking for. On balance, it seems reasonably clear in the context of the text that I was reading that it referred to the "[the freedom of being able to be] a dunderhead in times of peace]". But, perhaps, I have been too loose in my understanding. Anyway, my point for the submission is the headword above. The following comment simply relates to a widely used string which appears on your site and my failure to find a reliable reading anywhere; save the "WI1 (peace-addicted)". |
