Comment | With reference to my submission [01/01/09] for the above headword, I noted that there was a WI2 entry as follows:-
鬼が島 【?】 {place} Demon's Island; WI2 Presumably this WI2 would be deleted by the sweeping device; save that with this reading (i.e., with 'が' in the middle) it would not be recognized and thus would not be discovered on the sweep. |

Headword 1 | 真面 |
Headword 2 | 正面 |
Reading 1 | まとも |
Part-of-speech | adj-na,n |
English 1 | (uk) (1) (n) the front |
English 2 | (2) honesty |
English 3 | uprightness |
English 4 | direct |
English 5 | (3) decent |
English 6 | normal |
Reference | [A] |
Comment | Usage seen in a 朝日新聞 shasetsu:
「働いてもまともな暮らしができないワーキングプアが急速に広がった。」 ALC's example sentences support this notion of "decent", "normal". (acceptable, passable, etc. I suppose, but "decent" seems to cover the meaning quite well) Also, sense split between "the front" and the other meanings, which unless I am sorely mistaken, is always a noun. |
