New Entries/Amendments for 2009-01-09

These are the submissions received via the WWW forms for this day. I (Jim Breen) will annotate the submission if I think it needs to be amended or rejected or if I have a question about it. Otherwise it can be assumed that it has been accepted. You can see how it will look in EDICT by looking at the "diffs" file for this day or the next in the diffs directory.

Current Entry垂れ込め [たれこめ] /(?) ???/RH/
Headword 1垂れ込め
Reading 1たれこめ
Part-of-speechexp
English 1hanging down
ReferenceSee below.
CommentWith reference to your question, "Is it used much?", I cannot give you a positive answer, but it has appeared in text which I have read.

A search on Google does not help much because the string just comes up as part of the full verb form. However, even on the first few pages of Google, there are several cases where the above headword appears. Further if a novice is searching your site he or she would be pleased to get a positive response, rather than just the RH. So perhaps a promotion or a cross-reference would be helpful.

Editorial Comment For a verb stem to be put in as an entry in it own right, I need to see good evidence of it being used a lot that way.

Current Entry分り [わかり] /(?) ???/RH/
Headword 1分り
Reading 1わかり
Part-of-speech?
English 1???
English 2RH
ReferenceDelete the above.
See below.
CommentI was searching for "おわかり" in order to refine my understanding of the sentence below:-

遠景にある雪山の上空を見るとおわかりになるかと思います。

I came across the entry "おわかりのように as you will appreciate; WI1".

I thought, that is useful. Then on widening my research, I came across the following:-

分かり(P); 解り; 判り 【わかり】 (n) understanding; comprehension; (P)
分り 【わかり】 (?) ???; RH
分り 【わかり】 understanding; WI1

It seemed to me that with the (P) entry, the other two would have been deleted on a sweep, but for the reading of the headword, which does not seem to be usual. It seems that the RH and WI1 will have to be manually deleted; if, that is, I have understood your earlier comments correctly.

I don't suppose there is any case for my wondering if you would include "見るとおわかりになる[with the meaning of 'you will come to appreciate it when you see ....' ]". The entire string gets some 250 hits on Google.
