Comment | I am obliged for Rene's comment, namely: that "気さえする" is just a more emphatic way of stating the above [i.e., 気がする]".
Well, thanks, that's me sorted. However, how would anyone else in the novice band know about that valuable piece of information if a suitable reference cannot be found anywhere, save perhaps in some text book? As before, my comment is that in Japanese it is too often the case with the language references that the one who knows does not need to search and the one who searches cannot find. It is a little bit like what grown-ups used to say to children when a child asked for something which the grown up did not want to give a clear answer to, namely: "Those who ask don't get and those who don't ask don't want!" I frequently wonder why fine lines are drawn between inclusion and exclusion of entries where there is a clear and certain definition; not always understood by the novice, but obvious to the expert. Whereas, many obscurities appear on the site by way of fragments, which simply result from the mechanics of the the system. Whilst I am beginning to understand a little bit more about the reasons for inclusion and exclusion, I humbly apologize for again making the plea for inclusion of all known text and meanings, no matter how obvious. A great deal of my own searches end up in the RH category and I am left to try again elsewhere to find better information. Then, having done more research, I often make a submission for promotion just in case there may be some benefit for others. Fortunately, often with Rene's quick responses, and also your own comments, greater clarity usually follows, but unless that clarity gets logged permanently into the system others who search may not benefit. |

Editorial Comment | I think the best thing is to include 気さえする with reference to 気がする. |
Current Entry | 気さえする [きさえする] /(exp) it is even nervous (like)/TempSUB/ |
Headword 1 | 気さえする |
Reading 1 | きさえする |
Part-of-speech | exp |
English 1 | it is even nervous (like) |
English 2 | TempSUB |
Comment | As I say, I think your sentence would make a good example sentence. Example sentences are also a good searchable resource that people can use to find its meaning.
My own personal criterion for submission/inclusion is that something must be idiomatic enough to have already warranted an entry in at least one *other* dictionary or encyclopedia (in my case, usually multiple general Japanese-Japanese dictionaries). So, for me personally, 気がする passes because it's in Daijisen & Daijirin, whereas 気さえする fails. But of course, I just make recommended submissions, amendments & deletions, not policy. |

oed gives 'directivity' as 1. The quality or state of being directed by a vital force or power as distinguished from the physical forces, spec. as a theory of evolution. 2. The property or degree of being directional (see DIRECTIONAL a. 5). Also attrib. |

Comment | is there a ref. for 指向 being used alone to mean OO? wikipedia has OO as オブジェクト指向, and there's already an edict entry for that as well. it shouldn't be the first sense at any rate, and i would guess it falls perfectly well into the regular sense of 'orientation'. (nor should 'directional' be listed as a noun.) sense 3 would make the best 1st sense
x-ref to 志向. i'm not sure the new senses 2 and 3 above are necessary at all, but i'm a minimalist in that regard |
