| Comment | I am really very much obliged to have Rene's observation and I regard it as an act of kindness for him to take the trouble to respond [11/01/09]. I can now see more clearly that, as far a Rene is concerned, his object is for this site to replicate as far as possible that which exists in all the established dictionaries or encyclopaedias. Whereas, on the other hand, my desire is to see this site include all those things which I cannot readily find in the dictionaries or encyclopaedias; as well, of course, as all the things which can be found in such reference works.
As Rene has said, that is his own criterion and he does not make policy for the site. Rene has a clearly defined target, which leaves me in a state of admiration when thinking about the task which lies ahead of him; and also in the road already travelled. Whereas, I am generally motivated, by a line of text in some book, to search for a meaning; generally because I want to know what information or opinion the book is trying to convey to me. Well, I have to say that - on balance - this site covers quite a lot of the things which lie between Rene's own grand and admirable objective and my own simple desires to find some information as and when I need it. This site continually holds out the promise to fulfil the desires of searchers like myself and I would not see any incompatibility in satisfying both concepts to the fullest extent possible. However, as always, I am really impressed by what has been achieved on this site so my comments are not moans and groans, but gentle requests, which if granted, may end up with me being able to find all those little things which cause me so much trouble when trying to read Japanese text. |
