New Entries/Amendments for 2009-03-17

These are the submissions received via the WWW forms for this day. I (Jim Breen) will annotate the submission if I think it needs to be amended or rejected or if I have a question about it. Otherwise it can be assumed that it has been accepted. You can see how it will look in EDICT by looking at the "diffs" file for this day or the next in the diffs directory.

Current Entry二級酒 [にきゅうしゅ] /(?) ???/RH/
Headword 1二級酒
Reading 1にきゅうしゅ
Part-of-speechn
English 1second-grade alcohol
ReferenceSee below.
CommentReturning again, but based upon Name's NEW submission for "二級酒" [which is actually in the RH as above], I am sorry that I seemed to have hit on the wrong entry with my upgrade submission. I entered the search as "酒一升" and I guess that the result was based only on the first two characters. Then, clearly believing that I got a hit, I misread the "杯" for "升" and made the submission, hence my strange reading.

The actual expression from the text in the book was "二級酒一升".

I am inclined to agree with Name's suggestion about the deletion of the entry which I did click on because it seems that 'a cup of sake' is more often seen as "一杯の酒".

Now, I have probably created another needless entry. My apologies for the inconvenience.

CommentI was pleased to find the above entry. Perhaps it can be promoted because the "適さない" gets over 500K hits on Google. The "適さないで" gets only a few thousand.

The text from the book which I was reading included this: "...水上生活に適さない動物..."

Headword 1
Reading 1
Part-of-speechn
English 1(see comments)
CommentThe definition for this comes up as "具 【ぐ】 (n,n-suf) (1) tool; means; ingredients; (ctr) (2) counter for armor, suits, sets of furniture (armour); (P)".

I'm guessing that "(armour)" was actually supposed to follow "armor" as an alternate spelling. It doesn't make much sense after "sets of furniture".
