My refs say it's the old army/navy rank for which 士長 is used now. The usual
translations would be "leading private, private first-class, lance-corporal (UK, etc.), etc." The Japanese wiki page is rather inadequate. I have put in an
xref to 士長, and made the gloss "former rank in the Japanese army and
navy, equiv. to private first-class, lance corporal, etc.
PS: don't use "new" for amendments. |
