English 1(1) catalogue
English 2catalog
English 3list
English 4index
English 5(2) inventory, backlist
English 6(3) gift certificate
ReferenceExceed gives 《在庫本の》a backlist. and Genius has "inventory" and "index" (like a card index)
Commentdjs: 進物をする際、実物の代わりに仮にその品目を記して贈るもの。「結納の―」

In the context of contest prizes and wedding gifts, a 目録 can be presented as a sort of 'guarantee' or 'certificate' instead of the actual item (ie. you get the actual item later). However, I'm at a loss as to how to put this concept succinctly in English, so I submit it to your consideration. "gift certificate" is close but somehow it doesn't feel 100ight (basically the item at hand is already procured, the receiver of said certificate does not have to go out and buy it using the certificate, just wait for it to be delivered). Do you have a better suggestion?

FWIW, I checked Progressive, New Century, Exceed, Genius and ALC, but couldn't find anything helpful.

(I had to put (2) inventory, backlist separated by a comma because there's room for only six words here.. hopefully that's not a problem)

Editorial Comment Yes, the references are all over the place on this, with sense grouping being quite inconsistent. I'm going for one sense, but I'll your last one as "certificate indicating an impending gift" as another.

Current Entry目録 [もくろく] /(n) catalogue/catalog/list/(P)/ (1535710)
Headword 1目録
Reading 1もくろく
Part-of-speechn
English 1catalogue
English 2catalog
English 3list
Commentaddendum: excite.co.jp's dictionary gives "a list of betrothal presents" but that's way too wordy (and doesn't cover the contest prize aspect).

Hope this helps.

Editorial Comment GG5 does do, but adds "結納の" in front, so it's in the context of 結納の目録.
