| Comment | Following your helpful comment in respect of my recent submission for "百年前", namely:"Generally when it's [i.e., 前 is] modifying the noun before, as in this case (百年 + 前) it's まえ, and when it's more attached as part of the word it's ぜん. It's often "百年前に", "百年前の", etc.", I am requesting that there be a cross link between the above main entry and the following entry:-
"前 【まえ】 (n-adv,n-t,suf) (1) ago; before (some event); previously; (minutes) to (the hour); (2) in front (of); before (e.g. the house); (3) head (of a line); front (e.g. of a bus); fore part; (4) in the presence of; (5) (See 人前・にんまえ) helping; portion; (6) privates; private parts; (P)" If your helpful remarks were then included in both entries in order to clarify the reading of "前" when it is used as a suffix, then the novice would pick up that clue to usage, regardless of whether the initial search was for the kanji, the reading "ぜん" or the reading "まえ". That would be really useful and it would not affect any of the existing combinations which you presently have on the site; some of which do not seem to fit the norm, but no doubt for good reason. I did not try to modify the entries to accommodate the above submission because I did not wish to add to your workload by modifying both entries in a way which you may not wish to see as the end result. |

| Comment | The inclusion of "隔" with "曾" and "曽" does not seem to be right on the face of it. It seems that the concept of being distant may work, but the distance is more about being estranged and separated rather then the concept of "former" being distant from the present; as was no doubt the case of great grandchildren of long ago with the great grandparents often departing this world before the great grandchildren arrived.
However, maybe its inclusion is all right. Maybe, the entry is similar to an "ateji" type classification. In which case, my apologies for the submission. |
