Current Entry伝える [つたえる] /(v1,vt) to convey/to report/to transmit/to communicate/to tell/to impart/to propagate/to teach/to bequeath/(P)/ (1441870)
Headword 1伝える
Reading 1つたえる
Part-of-speechv1,vt
English 1to convey
English 2to report
English 3to transmit
English 4to communicate
English 5to tell
English 6to impart
English 7to propagate
English 8to teach
English 9to bequeath

CommentThis is simply an observation, which may not result in an amendment.

Your entry "つたえる (etc.) See: 伝う" prompted me to wonder why this was not a cross-reference from the main entry used in this submission. I decided to make a submission to that effect. However, I got "ERROR EXIT: Sorry - cross-references cannot be edited."

Clicking on the link [See: 伝う] took me to "伝う 【つたう】 (v5u) to go along; to walk along; to follow; (P)". I can therefore [I hope!] see that the link is a transfer from the potential form of the "verb" back to the dictionary entry form of the "verb". However, the "(etc.) " after the "つたえる" does not help me to fully tie up the relationship [before clicking the link] any more so than had the link been made from the main entry as above. In short, if I search for "つたえる" and I get to the main entry above, and then I find that there is a link which tells me that I may be searching for the potential form of "つたう"; then, with that information, I can rethink which of the two entries fits best with the reason behind my search being undertaken in the first place.

I hope that make sense.

Editorial Comment That "つたえる (etc.) See: 伝う" is from WWWJDIC; not from the dictionary proper. Those cross-references are there to help beginners who type in たべます and would like to get a meaningful result. The file that loads them should have つたえる referencing both 伝う and 伝える. I have amended it and it should be OK tomorrow.

"月余美" also seems to be used in some cases for in Manyoushuu (various other readings are in the Japanese Wikipedia) but are probably very uncommon
