やり直す
遣り直す
遣りなおす
やりなおす
(v5s,vt) to do over again, to redo, to start over, to remake, to resume, to recommence

やり直し is stem of latter. as やり直し, it is a noun, but it doesn't seem to be a (vs). This entry seems like an obvious derivation of 遣り直す

from 私お手伝いねこ, p63: "も一度初めから、洗濯の遣り直しです。" Microsoft IME doesn't recognize it as (vs) (though that doesn't guarantee it's not vs, it does suggest it).

Current Entry船を雇う [ふねをやとう] /(exp) to hire a boat/ (1906480)
Headword 1船を雇う
Reading 1ふねをやとう
Part-of-speechexp
English 1to hire a boat
CommentThis is just a thought about entries such as this, specifically (exp) type entries. I don't know if this has been discussed amongst the editor(s), but it seems like many (exp) entries are merely examples of words being used together that don't add a new definition or meaning to the words if they were looked up independently.

In the case of this example, both 船 and 雇う are found in the dictionary. 船 is listed as a noun; 雇う as a (vt). With this information, someone with a basic knowledge of Japanese grammar could determine that 船を雇う means "to hire a boat".

I would think it would make more sense to include examples only when the phrase or sentence being defined could not be explicitly determined from the individual words, if the phrase's meaning isn't literally what the words say, or if the phrase as a whole merits further explaination. (ご馳走様でした, for example: The meaning could be determined from looking up the individual words, but still the definition would be vague. Also missing is the fact that this is said after a meal. Thus, defined as a phrase clarifies the definition and includes further useful information about it)

I suppose there's nothing wrong with extra phrases being in the dictionary, as with hard drive space these days, most likely there's not a physical space concern (though that depends on a system's resources), and it may be a hassle to cull through all the examples and determine which has merits as a phrase and which should be left to its individual parts. But, maybe some phrases would work better as example sentences or at least examples of usage (maybe a subsection of the example list?). Anyways, just something to consider.

Editorial Comment The matter has been discussed, and many of these obvious examples have been culled. I have removed 船を雇う now. I'm keeping 舟を出す as it is not to obvious.
Feel fre to suggest these sorts of deletions.

Current Entry仕様(P);仕樣(oK) [しよう] /(n) (1) way/method/means/resource/remedy/(2) (technical) specification/(P)/ (1305500)
Headword 1仕様

Comment(2) is the antonym of エラー or バグ.
(2) is often used in the sense of "such and such is a feature (to specification) not a bug."

Editorial Comment I'm not sure it is an antonym. We can say "that's in the specs; it's not an error", but it doesn't make "error" an antonym of "specs".
