Comment | Dictionaries don't seem to carry this term, but i learned it long ago in some conversation. I've given a few NJS usage references that can be found on the web (there aren't many - i hope it's not a taboo word). ;-)
Anyway, i am sure you can add some other regional expression on the English side... |

Editorial Comment | It's "boondocks" surely. Also it and the sticks are used all over; not just in Canada. |

通称MODチップ(モッドチップ、MOD Chip)は、本来できないことをハードウェアレベルで実現するための苦肉の策である。主に流通していたチップは、CD-Rから起動できないようにされている家庭用ゲーム機にワンチップマイコンを付け、あたかも純正のCD-ROMがセットされたように見せかけて、CD-Rでも起動できるようにするというものである。 |
Comment | I'm the one who submitted マジコン originally. I apologize for the confusion, and promise that with these two changes the entries will be correct. :-) |

http://d.hatena.ne.jp/keyword/マジコン Forgot to give you these references. To reiterate: マジコン is a term used since the nineties to refer to devices that copy and play back the ROM data in game systems that use cartridges. In the Western world they used to be called "copiers", but these days "game backup device" is more common thanks to its political correctness. Mod chips on the other hand are used to circumvent copy protection in systems that use for example ordinary CDs. |

Comment | fix reading from hikoukouban to hikoukanpan.
hikoukouban in all hiragana gets plenty of google hits, but at least the first few pages seem to be edict-related hikoukouhan (taking kouhan from 甲板 かんぱん/こうはん) in all hiragana results in 10 google hits, which seem legit but I'd still consider the -kouhan reading a little too rare. hikoukanpan in all hiragana results in 375 hits and most of them seem reliable, so use that exclusively. |

Headword 1 | 購読 |

English 1 | paid subscription (e.g. magazine) |
Comment | It seems warranted to add the modifier "paid" to match the meaning of the
Japanese term (for another meaning there is the term 無料購読 - never mind the inherent contradiction between 無料 and 購う). |
