CommentAdding on to Scott's submission [21st September], perhaps also by adding "po-faced" to the translations [See OED].

There is some reference back to "poker-faced" in some dictionaries; which expression seems to give the right concept. Some reference sources say a stern, disapproving face, but in the context in which I have seen it used in English, the "deadpan poker-faced" concept is more correct.

The "po-faced" expression was [is?] often used in the context of, say, a "po-faced arbitrator", e.g., an arbitrator who did not want to give away his/or her thoughts during a Hearing by expressions of the face.

CommentThis headword picks up nearly half a million hits on Google [give or take the varing mixtures of kanji which are also present] so perhaps it could be promoted.

Roy Miller [58] gives the reading and a meaning in the context of the following text:-

"...大正の末頃には.... [Which I am reading as '... with regard to the ending of the Taishou period 1912-25']"

So the meaning sounds all right to me, but the reading is not quite so easy to confirm. However, with Roy Miller and your entries, that seems more right that going for "ON" readings.

Perhaps this headword could be combined with the following entry, or maybe just crossed-referenced:-

末頃に 【?】 toward the end (of); WI2
