These are the submissions received via the WWW forms for this day. I (Jim Breen) will annotate the submission if I think it needs to be amended or rejected or if I have a question about it. Otherwise it can be assumed that it has been accepted. You can see how it will look in EDICT by looking at the "diffs" file for this day or the next in the diffs directory.

CommentI note that Scott has suggested the deletion of this entry.

I can understand why that suggestion has been made. To add the "さ" to all such "い" adjectives would duplicate masses of entries. However, this headword does appear as a headword in Shogakukan, as an entry in Kenkyusha and, of course, in Nelson. When the novice comes looking, it is sure a comfort to find the very thing one is searching for.

As a side comment, as you clearly know, when one publishes a hard copy of a dictionary, one has to accept that space may be limited and some choices are difficult. However, when one has the electronic data base, one has the flexibility at one's fingertips. One can correct errors [a thing which the editors of Nelson would no doubt dream about with the many criticisms]; one can add, at will; and one can reformat to suit current thinking.

Why would one want to delete a perfectly correct entry? Is it only because it seems so obviously clear to those who already understand? The learner struggles with every little oddity; every little strange modification; all are obstacles to understanding for the one who does not yet understand.

Please keep as much as possible. Please don't send the novice off to refer to some other "usually unindexed publication" in order to search around for information. It is clearly obvious to all that without the "knowledge-based" tools in place, "i.e., the brain that knows already", that it is difficult to search for what one does not know. Indeed, sometimes the only thing one believes one knows at the particular moment in time is the thing being searched for, i.e., the thing itself, usually the string of kanji and kana that one has lifted from some text which is being looked at. Sometimes when the answer is found, even the novice says, "Oh, of course! it is obvious." However, until that point arrives, the thing driving the search never seems quite so obvious.

Of course, I suppose that this entry could simply be a tool for making a cross-reference to "悔しい", but the mode of conversion to a noun would need to be shown in some way.

Editorial Comment I'm keeping this one. Probably to get better E->J coverage we need more -さ entries.

CommentIt would not let me amend 詰める because it said it's a cross-reference! So I did it this way.
Amended #1 & #2.
There are a few other various meanings that I don't understand enough to contribute.

Editorial Comment OK but just quoting an NSJ is often not enough. Mny people make hashes of their own language.
