Headword 1 | にしろ |
Part-of-speech | suf |
English 1 | even if |
English 2 | both (my friend) and (I), neither (him) nor (me)(with negative) |
Reference | See below. |
Comment | The novice sees "にしろ" and searches in the dictionary for a meaning. What does "しろ" mean in context? Neither "white" nor "castle" fits the text so what else. The novice then tries to look up "に" in the hope of finding a clue, but no help there. As the pages of a dictionary are flipped over randomly, will the novice suddenly spot "-にしろ" lurking there, unexpectedly, as a headword? I wonder!
How can one encourage someone to search a dictionary starting off with what seems like a particle? Perhaps you could have "しろ" in the database with a link to "にしろ", perhaps that would resolve the matter. If you don't think that is best, please consider simply including the above submission as a headword because it is also included as a headword in Shogakukan. |
