CommentWith regard to your submission which includes "Unless anyone objects, I'll remove it," I did try to resist the temptation of being the "one" just to be the "one".

However, I reflected carefully upon the direction of the progressive build-up of your dictionary. I wondered about what would happen when the drive to include new nouns begins to fade [i.e., as the value of new nouns becomes more and more obscure - albeit very necessary for a complete dictionary]. I then wondered about how the future contributors would proceed with dedicated enthusiasm. Having wondered about those things, I thought that the next direction may be the development of expressions and useful text,in general.

I then thought that one day, at sometime in the future, this deleted expression would find its way back into the database; along with the many other things which are currently excluded.

After all that wondering, I accessed the headword entry for this submission. I decided to click on your new [not quite so new now] sound recording for this entry. I listened to the sound recording several times over and then thought about the novice.

When the novice comes searching your site and sees this headword, the novice gets the complete "thing": the reading, the meaning and the sound for an everyday ordinary expression. What more could the novice want, as the road to understanding is trodden?

So, I ask, "What merit is there is taking this valuable tool away?"

Indeed, the whole concept of "dictionary-type rules", with roots deep in the "alphabet", may not reflect a language where expressions and conceptual meanings drive the very heart of the language; at least, that is how the novice sees it. Your dictionary has the tone of flexibility embedded into every angle so why not have only one rule, namely: if the entry may be useful to anyone, simply include it.

Maybe, if you had simply deleted this headword, perhaps no one would have cared or even bothered. However, your invitation for anyone to object, has motivated me to come forward. I hope others will do the same.

Editorial Comment Some years back I added a heap of entries from a certain source, and noticed later that it contained a lot of short "examples" like this one. I don't think they belong as headwords, as I want to concentrate on including expressions whixh are idiomatic, i.e. there meaning differs from what you'd expect. Having 着物を乾かす as an entry implies there is something special about it, and there isn't. Better to work it into a sentence and add it to the Tanaka set.
