Comment | I hesitate to make this submission, but....
When the novice is confronted with a text like this: "入り口の方柱かなにかからまた火が起きて燃え出し、", the task of understanding seems difficult. Why, one may ask would a novice be reading text like that? Well, in truth, I guess that you would accept that the text is very simple, providing one can see the obvious [obvious to one who knows]. If one pulls out the "かなにか", the novice is probably home and dry. If the novice found the "かなにか" on your site, then the understanding would follow more easily. P.S., Many thanks for your explanation in respect of your invitation and my submission for "着物を乾かす". I can agree with what you say. However, can one make a statement like this: 'if the novice cannot find an "expression" on this site, then it can be taken that the total meaning of the group of "words" being searched for is simply the normal collective meaning of all the individual headwords which appear elsewhere on the site?' In the event that one cannot make such a statement, there is a problem for the novice because until the novice really begins to understand in depth, he or she does not know which expressions are idiomatic and which are not. However, with the inclusion of a good range of non-idiomatic expressions in everyday use, the novice would gradually find the comfort zone of spotting the difference; especially, when upon a little reflection, the novice discovers that the Japanese use idiom in much the same way as any other person who is not Japanese. I had hoped that you would have retained "着物を乾かす" because in your "work in progress" section there are many other very useful expressions which commence with "着物を". As for me, I would like to see them all promoted. |

Comment | I understand that having both the ノ and the ガ form in the same entry was too complex. But then it would be great to have a tool to automate the creation of duplicate entries. Like a button that would automatically create a duplicate entry that could be amended manually to substitute no and ga while automatically adding an xref to the other entry. You could also have a function that would tag the two entries as duplicates and automatically warn a user amending one entry to also amend the other. I guess this will never happen but I'll suggest it anyway. |
