New Entries/Amendments for 2010-01-22

These are the submissions received via the WWW forms for this day. I (Jim Breen) will annotate the submission if I think it needs to be amended or rejected or if I have a question about it. Otherwise it can be assumed that it has been accepted. You can see how it will look in EDICT by looking at the "diffs" file for this day or the next in the diffs directory.

Headword 1残件
Reading 1
Part-of-speechn
English 1something outstanding (as in a remaining item)
Reference"...調整が残件となっている" - in the context of an equipment adjustment that remains outstanding.

CommentAll available dictionaries were innocent of this word, except that WWWJDIC has it but with no translation given. My wife, a native Japanese speaker, supplied the meaning, and it does fit the context in which the word was encountered. She did not object to the kana reading given by WWWJDIC.

(P) /(n) poster/(P)/ (1125110)
Headword 1
Headword 2
Part-of-speechn
English 1poster
CommentJudging from usage seen, I would drop the (P) from the ポスタ headword, leaving it only on the ポスター one. Searching for "ポスタ" on Google JP mainly returns hits about cities called "Posta" or other such words (one in Italy it seems), and pages where "ポスター" is used.

In compound nouns "ポスター" appears to be used almost exclusively:

"ポスタ発表": 2.380 Googits
"ポスター発表": 2.620.000 Googits

Current Entry用紙 [ようし] /(n) blank form/(P)/ (1546290)
Headword 1用紙
Reading 1ようし
Part-of-speechn
English 1(1) blank form
English 2(2) sheet(s) of paper
ReferenceUsage in sentences such as:

# 用紙の方向を変えるのはどうやるのですか?
How do I change the paper orientation?
(Source: ALC)

Or more general:
(etc.)
CommentAdded a second sense. I'm assuming in English "blank form" can mean a sheet of paper with input fields and such printed on it, but not filled in yet. If "blank form" can also mean "a blank sheet of paper" the two translations need not be separate.
