Headword 1なかろう
Part-of-speechexp
English 1(something) is probably not so
English 2(as a question) is (it) probably not so [meaning it is more than likely to be so]
ReferenceSee below.
CommentIt comes up in excess of 17million on Google. It seems that the meaning is obvious to all but the novice, but equally it seems difficult to find any reference to the meaning. It is often in forms like, "ではなかろう", "ではなかろうね", "じゃなかろうね [e.g., in the opening lines of 『夢十夜』", "ではなかろうか".

There are plenty of references for "であろう", but even though one has a combination like "であろうとなかろうと", which comes up on Google in a big way, and seems to hold the meaning of "whether or not" [In short, as I would see it, with a meaning of the "probability of existence and non-existence"].

If one searches on your site for "であろうとなかろうと", one gets the first part [であろう] and if one clicks on [A] related to the original search, one gets a good selection of translations which match.

With this submission, I am wondering what I have missed. My, up-front, apologies if I have missed the obvious.

CommentSurely this should be しゅ-whatever. And my gut feeling says that しゅページ would be the most common way to read this (although this word is far from common to begin with. Most everyone would say メインページ or ウェブサイト for 網頁).
