CommentSorry, i have no bilingual references, but it is clear from both the kanji
themselves and the usage on the reference provided, that these are not
"residents of Japan" but "Japanese residing outside of japan"... :-)

An unrelated comment: the "amend" form does not have a field for XREF, thus
Scott (recently) and we all are forced to put Xref comments into the English
fields in parentheses when submitting amendments - do you think you could
add such a field to the "amend" form?

Editorial Comment I have added the field. I'll see if I can populate it without jumping through hoops.

CommentAlthough it seems only sparsely attested on Japanese web pages, it is bound to
show up more often in the future since in Chinese the same kanji are used for
the same purpose.

Commenti think the current "policy" (if it can be called that) is to include only the "designated cities" of japan in edict proper, since they basically function as prefectures:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/City_designated_by_government_ordinance

maybe the "core cities" and all prefectural capitals should also be included in edict:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Core_city

i like outsourcing the decision for inclusion to some set of cities selected by the japanese government, since it at least gives some objective grounds for accepting/rejecting

Headword 1携帯電郵
Reading 1けいたいでんゆう

English 1cell phone e-mail (email, mail)
English 2mobile phone e-mail (email, mail)
Cross-reference電郵
Referencehttp://office-tomishin.at.webry.info/200911/article_16.html
CommentThe English definitions may perhaps have to be reworded/ expanded to cover all Englishes, since aside from the two English expressions "cell phone" and "mobile phone" - do they actually mean the same?), i only know the neo-German "handy" and nothing about what people in other countries call "携帯電話"

In the context of searching for more references on the web, the page of a service came up that translates SMS to e-mail and e-mail to SMS - this is apparently something of use (and need) in Germany, where cell phones ("handies") don't seem to do e-mail (yet). That made me wonder about other countries, and it seems in Canada and the US the situation is the same. And in south America, too... Big whopping lacunae...
