These are the submissions received via the WWW forms for this day. I (Jim Breen) will annotate the submission if I think it needs to be amended or rejected or if I have a question about it. Otherwise it can be assumed that it has been accepted. You can see how it will look in EDICT by looking at the "diffs" file for this day or the next in the diffs directory.

Editorial Comment I did it myself - it's very common (4.5M googits), and that was the best I could come up with from looking at a lot of examples. Any suggestions are welcome.

CommentRe my previously submitted entry: i always take care to post/mail URLs containing non-ASCII characters in their ASCII-equivalent to avoid mojibake, but we are getting mojibake here... what gives?
With this test submission i am including the URL containing Japanese characters as it is.)

Submission Typenew
Editorial Comment By "ASCII-equivalent" you possibly mean the %nn%nn%nn%nn "URL coding"? As the data is coming in via a WWW form, the server software automatically decodes all those patterns. The form is set to EUC-JP coding as a default, but if the %nn%nn is for UTF-8 or Shift_JIS, it will result in mojibake. It's better if you keep the Japanese as Japanese - then it will end up correct.

Current Entry視感度 [しかんど] /(n) luminosity factor/luminosity/luminous efficacy/spectral luminous efficacy/visibility/WI1\4/
Headword 1視感度
Reading 1しかんど
Part-of-speechn
English 1luminous sensitivity
Referencehttp://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/視感度
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luminosity_function
CommentAbout the currently registered meanings: "efficacy" (発光効率) is something that
applies to light sources, while luminous sensitivity (視感度) is about light reception
(for example, in the human eye) - it is easier to keep such things apart in Japanese,
where each kanji gives away part of the meaning, but non-technical dictionaries often
carry inaccurate information.
In the same vein, from the point of view of a physicist or technician, etc., "efficacy"
is not the same as "efficiency", and "radiation" is not the same as "irradiation", and
so on, never mind that in common parlance words like that are often used in an
indiscriminatory manner. :-)
Here are references to what 視感度 is not:

English 3very good
English 4(2) (that's) just fine!
English 5bring it on!

esp. この場合の「上等だ」は、普通のことばにすれば、「望むところだ」とか「受けて立つのにこの上なくふさわしい」というようになるかと思います。カタカナ語を使えば「ウエルカム」ということでしょう。

Many, *many* movies with delinquent characters feature lines to the effect of 上等じゃねーか etc. It may be difficult to understand them if one relies only on the literal meaning of this word.
