I'm recommending deletion because the proposed translation is misleading and because it's not really an expression. I asked on the Honyaku list to be sure I wasn't making a mistake.

CommentThis gets a great number of Google hits. It is in my dictionary, to hand, [kenkyusha]. It would seem to be a good candidate for promotion.

If you decide upon promotion, the following also are on the site and, depending upon promotion of the above, could be modified or deleted:-

柾目 【まさめ】 (n) straight grain; WI1

柾目の通った 【まさめのとおった】 (adj) straight-grained; WI1
柾目の扉 【?】 straight-grained wooden door; WI2
柾目紙 【まさめがみ】 (?) ???; RH
柾目板 【まさめいた】 (n) straight grain board; WI1
柾目木取り 【まさめきどり】 rift-cutting; WI1

The following also supports the above submission:-

柾目 【まさめ】 edge grain; straight grain; RW

I've let this one through. It can be amended in-situ if needed.
Current Entryと呼ばれて注目を集める [とよばれてちゅうもくをあつめる] /(exp) widely referred to as .../commonly known as .../generally called .../ (2543190)
Headword 1と呼ばれて注目を集める
Reading 1とよばれてちゅうもくをあつめる
Part-of-speechexp
English 1becoming popular under the name of ...
English 2commonly known as ...
English 3often called ...
Cross-reference注目を集める
CommentThanks, Scott, for the feedback on the honyaku list. The question that remains
is now whether the とよばれて is part of the expression or not (if not, then the
existing entry for 注目を集める will take care of the matter). It was suggested
that you can separate the two parts, and i think in many cases you can, but in
some cases doing so would miss the point. For example, in my sample sentence,
LEDディスプレイが担ってきたような街角の看板などは今、
> デジタルサイネージと呼ばれて注目を集めている, the 今 clearly points to the fact
that the new name デジタルサイネージ is related to the act of "becoming
popular(ly known)" - after all, street corner (etc.) billboards as such, without
the new name, have been "attracting attention" (literally) for some time (over
100 years?) now...Rather than seeing this entry dismissed, i would prefer that
it be kept in a way that we can keep working on it, to get it modified/refined to
the point where it is ready for prime time and can from then on provide
assistance to users of this resource here... ;-) (For example, rather than being
put into ED it could be put into a WI#, where we already have many unapproved
entries, some of which are of questionable quality - all of that looks to me like
a "good thing" and not a "bad thing".)

ReferenceSee related entries in the database
Comment1) The English definitions, especially those at the top of the list, need serious
work to get a structural fit - in many cases the explicit "of" is not there at all
(or, at most, implied) - example: "this XYZ is attracting attention"; "this XYZ
is getting popular"
2) Many of the currently suggested meanings are colloquial expression with
exactly the same meaning of the few that i am suggesting as main entries for
the moment - i am not sure to which extent such Thesaurus-like entries are
needed/wanted
3) Could this entry be amended (perhaps even with the inclusion of the putting
the original terms at the tail end) and still left in WI1 for the time being, until
others have had time to comment on this matter?
