New Entries/Amendments for 2010-05-15

These are the submissions received via the WWW forms for this day. I (Jim Breen) will annotate the submission if I think it needs to be amended or rejected or if I have a question about it. Otherwise it can be assumed that it has been accepted. You can see how it will look in EDICT by looking at the "diffs" file for this day or the next in the diffs directory.
Annotations completed: 15 May.

Current Entry本省人 [?] /island Chinese/native Taiwanese/Taiwan native tribes/Taiwan natives/WI2\4/
Headword 1本省人
Reading 1ほんしょうじん
Part-of-speechn
English 1(1) (China) someone from one's own province
English 2(2) (Taiwan) someone whose ancestors had lived in Taiwan before the Kuomintang related immigration wave
ReferenceSame as the previous entry
CommentThe previously listed expressions "native Taiwanese" and "Taiwan natives"
have different connotations, respectively, and should not be included in this
definition. And "Taiwan native tribes" is plain wrong - they are referred to as
原住民. I also have doubts about the expression "island Chinese" in this context,
although it is possible it may also be used in certain contexts - i've heard it
applied to people living on the island of Hainan (and there are yet other islands
where Chinese people live).
Related in a larger sense: something to put the matter into perspective (one
possible perspective):

This "RH" headword is how I see it used, but the reading remains common.

If that is correct, then maybe the main headword above should form the entry, but with "重箱読" included as the principal headword.
